5 Unique Ways to Reuse Old Pens: Sustainable Hacks for Students

Creative Ways to Reuse Old Pens:

What do you do when your pen stops working or runs out of ink? You probably toss it in the bin. But why send your old pens to landfills when you can give new life to them? There are several ways to put your old pens into use other than writing. Want a head start? Here are some cool funky ideas to transform your pens into something unique and useful.

1. DIY Hacks with Old Pens

If you have a bunch of empty pens, now is the time to bring your imagination and creativity back. Let us see what all you can create with unwanted pens at your home-

  • Stationery Holder – Simply glue all your pens together around a can and make your own stationery stand. Put some office or school supplies in it and you are ready to go.
  • Toy House- If you have collected more than 30 empty pens, you can create a beautiful toy cabin by using the pens as logs!
  • Dish Rack – All you need is a few pens and you can have your own dish rack. Just drill holes into a wooden board, attach dried out pens and stack your utensils.

2. Flower Pens

Take an old pen and remove the ink cartridge. Fill the empty pen with water and place your favorite flower inside it. These flower pens are so easy to make that you can have a bunch of them in no time. This way you can add life to the unused stationery. You can even create a bouquet and gift it to your eco-conscious friends.

3. Wire Tie

Tired of your cords and wires getting tangled on a daily basis? Try this hack and thank us later. Take an old ballpoint pen and remove its spring. Wrap the spring around your cord to prevent it from getting tangled.

4. Hair Stick

Ever tried a pen hair bun? If not, try it asap. Gather your hair like you would to make a ponytail. Twist the hair and form it into the shape of a bun. As you twist your hair, take a pen and push it from the right side of the bun. Weave the pen through the bun and take it out from the left side. Tuck in your loose hair and you are good to go. If you have an artistic friend, ask them to paint it with cute patterns.

5. Stylus

One of the easiest ways to use old pens is to convert them into a stylus. Remove the ink cartridge and insert a cotton bud into the tip of the pen in place of the nib. If it’s loose, take the help of a tape to secure it. Take a piece of aluminum foil and wrap it around the pen. Make sure that the foil touches a portion of the cotton also. Dip the cotton swab in water to make it moist. There you go, your home-made stylus is ready.

These are just a few ideas for you to put the empty pens back into action. Try these out and enjoy the satisfaction that comes with upcycling things that you would have thrown otherwise.
